Hello friends! I’m so excited to show you the card I made using the My Monthly Hero August 2022 kit. I did something slightly different from what the kit was intended for – which is to create this gorgeous desert scene using stencils. The Hero Arts design team created so many permutations of this scene, mine will pale in comparison! Here is what the kit contains.

• 4 Color Layering Stencils (5.25″ x 6.5″)
• 6 Coordinating Frame Cuts
• 4 Ink Cubes (Caramel, Sand, Tangerine, Pine)
• 5 Sheets Luxe White Watercolor Paper (5.5″ x 8.5″)
• Bronze PearlEx (0.11 oz.)
So instead of using the stencils to create a scene, I use just the stencils that color in the cacti. I made different color variations of them using Hero Arts inks.
First color variation, Green Hills for the base color and Forest (inlcluded in the kit) for the details. Then Moss for the base and Paradise for the details. For the more colorful ones, I used Cotton Candy for the base color and Azalea for the details, then Tangerine (included in the kit) for the orange Cacti. I used coordinating Prismacolor pencils to shade and enhance the details on the cacti. I also added little prickles on some of them. The highlights on all the cacti are from white gel pen. After that I used the coordinating dies to cut them out. Some I did fussy cut them by hand.
For the background of my card, I used the Cactus Bold Print cling stamp and stamped it on kraft paper using Unicorn White Pigment Ink.
For the pots, I used a small oval, hectagon and circle dies from the Infinity dies set, and then just cut of the top and the a little of the bottom. Then I traced in the shapes with colored pencils and shaded them.
Then using two consecutive sizes of the large oval infinity die, I cut out a frame out kraft paper and also cut out a window on a cardstock panel using the smaller of the two.
I adhered the white inked cactus background onto a card base, arranged the cacti creating a scene. Then I added the white heat embossed sentiment “Best Wishes” inserted in the middle.
I actually have some left over cacti from the four different color variations I made, which I will make into another card.
