Hello! The squirrel sisters are back with our monthly blog hop! You have just come from the lovely V Fairchild! This month’s prompt is Masking & Leaves. If you are new to this hop, it’s that once a month where my squirrel sisters and I get together and create projects using stuff in our stash that we have “squirreled” away! It really helps us revisit our stash and bash the stuff that are gathering dust or haven’t seen the light of day in a long time!

My favorite technique to mask is by heat embossing the image then add color to the backgorund. I just find this a lot easier than fussy cutting paper masks to mask out an image.
First, I ink blended a cardstock panel with different shades of greens. Then I stamped images from the Leaf Clusters and Leaf Canopy stamp sets from Altenew with embossing ink. These stamps sets are several years old and they haven’t been used in quite awhile Then I heat set it with clear embossing powder. Then I ink blended on top of the heat embossed images, but this time I use darker greens and a little bit of turquoise ink. The heat embossed images resisted the inks. Next, I took a cloth and buffed off the excess inks sitting on top of the images.

Then I took the leaf cluster stamps and leaf canopy stamps, and stamped them with embossing ink on top of the existing heat embossed images. Then I heat set it again with clear embossing powder. Then I took a dark blue, almost navy, and swiped the ink pad all over the top. This made the leaves pop out even more! And the second layer of embossed images look like they are behind the first set of images.

To add a pop of color, I then decided to take the outline stamps of the leaf canopy stamp set and stamp and heat emboss using Red embossing powder. Which I’ve had in my stash for quite awhile!

I then added a white heat embossed sentiment on red cardstock and finished it off with red holographic gems.

In the meantime, have fun hopping along and have a wonderful crafty week ahead!
’til next time!
