Hero Arts Global Team Blog Hop: Stunning Scenic Layering

Hello crafty friends! Welcome to the Hero Arts Global Team Blog hop! You have just come from the lovely Sandi McIver. This month’s Hero Arts My Monthly Hero theme is all about dreams. The monthly kit and the add-ons are loaded with images inspired by surrealism.

One of the things I enjoy about cardmaking is creating multi-layered scenes on my cards. It may look a little complicated but actually it’s not – it just takes a little bit of planning and getting all the elements ready before putting the card together.

For my project inspirations, I will be using the add-ons included in the February 2022 Hero Arts release. I created two cards, one scene has a very soft color palette and the other a more bold one!

Card #1:

I used the ink smooshing technique to create the background. I smooshed some Blue Hawaii reactive ink onto a silicone media mat, then added some Thistle reactive ink in between.  I took a spray bottle I sprayed the inks generously with water. I then pounced a piece of watercolor paper and two pieces of regular heavyweight cardstock onto the water-downed inks.

I have a video linked below where I show the process step-by-step. I forgot to mention in my video that these scene cards would make great shaker cards too!

Here is a closer look at the cards I made.

Card #2:

I created galaxy backgrounds using Nuvo shimmer powders.  I will link a technique video here in case you want to check out the different ways I create galaxy backgrounds.

For added interest to the background, I heat embossed with blue pearl embossing powder using the Starry Night stencil. The elements on this card, the stars, blue whale and the moon, I used a supply found in a hardware store – Aluminum foil tape. I stumbled upon this while shopping for lightbulbs. I found that this was perfect to use with smaller dies and because this tape is mainly used for plumbing works, the stick is quite strong.

The fun little die cuts are from the Hero Arts Dream Accessories Fancy Die set.  The sentiment Dream Big is from the Dream Messages stamp set.

And I have great news! Hero Arts is sponsoring a $25 gift card for our blog hop! Just comment below what you love most about Hero Arts and let me know too, which of my cards is your favorite – the soft, ethereal one or the bold, galaxy inspired one?

Next stop on the hop is multi-talented Daniel Diaz! His card inspiration is sure to blow you away!

Have a wonderful crafty day!

‘Til next time!

❤️

  1. oh my gosh! They are both so beautiful I couldn’t possibly pick a fav! I love how you used the fancy tape for the whale, when I first saw it I thought it was made of glass because of how shiny it was!
