Scrap it! An ATSM Photo Inspiration Challenge

This will be the last Addicted to Stamps challenge for the year. The wonderful Kylie who hosts these challenges will be taking a much deserved six months hiatus. This final ATSM challenge is a photo inspiration. You can take any element in this photo, an image, a color scheme or even a pattern and use it as an inspiration for your card.

For this challenge, I decided to take the color scheme as inspiration. I love the teal and/or blue combined with a beautiful salmon color.

I took my box of pattern paper scraps from back in the day when I made cards just with pattern paper and decided to cut them up into 1/2″ strips. I did not vary the widths, I just stuck to half an inch and kept on cutting them using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Trimmer.

After I had quite a bit of strips, I then started segregating them into color schemes and patterns. Then I cut down several 4.25″X5.5″ panels of scratch paper which would serve as the base. I glued down the strips in a horizontally and sometimes vertically across the scratch paper panel. There was just something very therapeutic about doing this. Here are some of the panels I made. I think I made about 50 strip panels all in all.

Then I took two panels from the pile of which I felt was the closest to the color scheme. One was a beautiful teal color and the other was a combination of beige and salmon with some teal dots. One of the pattern papers had some silver foiling.

I cut the panels down to 4″X 5.25″ and ink blended the sides of the panel to give it a more finished look. I used Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink for the Teal panel and Dried Marigold for the other.

I dug through my stash of die cut flowers which I had watercolored during Kathy Racoosin’s 30 days marker challenge and found a flower that I had painted in shades of orange and pink. This flower and leaves are from the Altenew Wallpaper Art stamp set, one of my all-time favorites! I adhered it to the front of the panel and placed a sentiment and voila!

For the second card, I cut it down the same way and adhered it to a silver mirror cardstock. I wanted to add a simple sentiment in the front so I chose the Sugar Script Thanks die from Brisch Press. This die has a matching shadow die. My dilemna was that I didn’t have any salmon colored cardstock. So I took a pink cardstock and ink blended Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink all over it. The combination of the orange of the Carved Pumpkin with the Pink cardstock gave me the exact salmon color I needed.

To mute down the color, I used a die cut vellum over the the salmon base. Then I added a few gems and called that card finished!
