One of the things I often daydream about is how to use the stuff in my crafty stash in lots of different ways. I often combine stamps from different HA My Monthly Hero Kits to make a card. So when My Blog Named Hero came up with this month’s Stretch Your Stamps challenge, I just had to jump in and join!
For this card, I used the Hero Arts Mail Jumble background cling stamp. The first thing I did was stamp it on some watercolor cardstock with versamark ink then used black embossing powder. After I heat set it, I proceeded to watercolor the different envelope images in rainbow colors. I then fussy cut out each image to use as a shaker element.
For the background, I used the technique I learned from one of Jennifer Mcguire’s videos, called the watercolor lift technique, which I will link here. After I finished the background, I cut it to fit a 4.25″x5.5″ card with a 1/8″ margin on all sides.
For the frame of the shaker card, I used a stamp nesting die from my stash which I’ve had for the longest time, I don’t even remember where it came from. Hero Arts has a similar stamp infinity die which I will link below.
I then used the Hero Arts rectangular infinity die to cut out the window and also to cut out the black frame. I put thin acetate under the window then put two layers of thin doublesided foam strips all around the inside of the frame.
To assemble the card, I placed the cut out envelope images in the middle of the background, added coordinating sequins, then placed the stamp frame carefully on top, trapping the images and sequins inside.
I finished it off by placing a happy birthday sentiment from Mama Elephant Occasional Labels stamp set on top of the acetate window.
Hope this project of mine inspired you to look at some of your stamps a little differently. There are still a few more days left to join the A Blog Named Hero Stretch Your Stamps Challenge!
’til next time!
