Papercraft Business Challenge

The Papercraft Business September Challenge & Concord and 9th Hi There (Aloha) Bear

Its the first of the month and its time for another Papercraft Business Challenge! This month’s theme is There’s a Bear in There!

When I was young my father would takes us on vacation to Hawaii almost every summer. Though we lived in a tropical country, there was just something about Hawaii that really felt like home for him. Because of this I had so many wonderful memories of Hawaii. Maybe that’s why I tend to gravitate towards anything tropical. When Concord & 9th came out with their Tropical Vibes Stamp set, I simply had to have it! What better way to pair it with one of my fave C&9th stamp set, Hi There Bear! Sadly, this stamp set is being phased out but lucky for you its on SALE at their website.

In the Hi There Bear stamp set, there is a small background stamp with stripes, I thought this would be perfect for the stamp on a stamp, otherwise called “stamp kissing” technique. For this technique I went with Distress Oxide Inks as they have both the qualities of a pigment and a dye ink. I used the Toucan Paradise stamp set leaves and flowers elements and stamp them directly onto the stripe background stamp. See photo below.

I inked up the different elements using a variety of Distress Oxide inks namely, Forest Moss, Peeled Paint & Twisted Citron for the leaves and Carved Pumpkin & Abandoned Coral for the flowers. I then stamped it down on the paper and got this wonderful watercolor effect. I cleaned off the stamp and then inked it up with Antique Linen Distress ink to fill it in.

For the Bear, I stamped her with Gathered Twigs Distress ink and filled in the little details like eyes, nose, mouth and paws with versafine onyx black ink. Her floral crown was die cut from one of the elements from the Sizzix Floral Wreath die set. I colored the little flowers using the same colors as the big flowers. I then pasted the bear on the stripe background.

For the base of the card, I used the Concord & 9th Tropical Vibes Turnabout Stamp using Bundled Sage Distress Oxide Ink.

To finish off my card, I used Glossy Accents for the floral crown, and for the bear’s eyes, Nuvo Crystal Drops in Ebony black. I mounted it on a 4.25″X 5.5″ card base and matted it with green cardstock. The sentiment is from Altenew Totally Tropical stamp set.

Here are more close-ups of my card.

Here is another card I made.

I can hardly wait to see what you create over at the Papercraft Business Challenge! The lucky winner will win this cute Pennants stamp set from Whimsy Stamps!
