Hi crafty friends! I was in the mood to watercolor some Christmas cards using my metallic paints. It’s been awhile since I last brought out my metallic watercolor paints so I thought it would be nice to use them again.
I decided to use the Hero Arts Color Layering Stencils and paint each layer of the four piece stencil using different colors of metallic watercolor paints.
I took some blue violet thick cardstock from my stash and started watercoloring thru each opening of the stencil. In order for the paints not to seep through, I made sure to keep the watercolors with a thick consistency. This is fairly easy to do with metallic watercolors.

After I finshed watercoloring thru each stencil, I then cut down the panel to 4″x 5 1/4″, then I heat embossed the edges with gold embossing powder. This is my favorite way of fishing off the edges of my card to give it an elegant look.

For the sentiment, I heat embossed “Happy Holidays” in gold, trimmed it then heat embossed the edges. The sentiment is from the coordinating stamp set also called Poinsettia Pattern.

Then I added foam tape at the back of the panel and mounted it on the same color cardstock cut to 5 1/2″x 4 1/4″. Then gliued down the sentiment and added the whole panel to a side folding card base.

I found it quite relaxing , painting thru a stencil. It didn’t take muche effort and I quite enjoyed not having to think about what to paint as the pattern was already thought out for me!
I do hope this inspired you to give it a try!
Have a wonderful crafty day!
’til next time!
