Merry Chris-Mousse! A Collected Crafty Collabs Hop

Hi! Welcome to my blog! We are once again hopping along with our crafty friends on the monthly Collected Crafty Collabs Hop! If you are following on in the hop, you have just come from Lounon Riviere’s creative blog. If you are new to the hop, this is organized by my crafty squirrel sisters, Karen @misplacedmojo, Virginia @passionsanddistractions and Marie @anothercardmaker and I to uplift and support fellow makers and encourage the use of our supplies that we hardly ever use or we squirrelled away!

The theme of this month’s hop is Christmas/Holiday and/or texture paste/mousse. This is just the perfect time to break out my limited supply of Nuvo Embellishment Mousse. I only have 3 colors, Pure Platinum, Mother of Pearl and Indian Gold. I’ve had these for quite awhile and I was almost afraid to open them up as I know they dry up when not in use. And just as I suspected, they did dry up!

Not to be discouraged, I turned to my lovely squirrel sisters for advice and then proceeded to experiment with them.

I took my palette knife scooped up the crumbly mousse onto my glass mat. I added a few drops of water onto the mousse and worked at it with my craft knife to achieve the right consistency as I remembered it to be – too thick and it would be hard to spread – too thin, it would seep under the stencil. Here are the photos before and after.

For this card, I used the Snowflake Soiree stencils from The Greetery. They are not layering stencils per se, but more of a builder stencil where you can use the four stencils (A1, A2, B1 & B2) to create different colored snowflakes.

To achieve the two-tone effect, I used stencil A1 & B2 for the first color which was the Pure Platinum. I took my palette knife an scooped out some of the hardened mousse, placed it on my glass media mat. Then I decided to add silver glitter from my hoarded collection of Martha Stewart fine glitter. I spritzed it with water and worked my mousse until i acheived a consistency that was thick yet spreadable.

For the second color, I used the same platinum mousse but this time I added a little color by sprinkling a little Nuvo Blue Blitz shimmer powder and blue glitter.

I used this tinted mousse on stencils A2 & B1. I made sure I had a container of warm soapy water next to me to drop in my stencils after use. I used a heat gun to dry between stencil application.

After my panel was dry, I took some metallic watercolor paints and splattered Sterling Silver and Aquamarine metallic watercolor all over the panel. This gave a wintry effect.

Then I die-cut the word Be Merry from silver cardstock. The Be Merry die also came in the same Snowflake Soiree stencil set from The Greetery. I then cut down the panel and mounted it on the same glitter cardstock panel from where I cut the word Be Merry from. I added some rhinestone baubles from Trinity Stamps here and there for additional sparkle!

I hope you were inspired by my project and learned some new tips on working with mousse. Please hop on to Yvette Olea‘s blog for more inspiration!

‘Til next time!

  4. Your card is stunning! I’m glad to know that the mousse can be brought back to life after sitting a while. Some of mine look like that and I will definitely try this tip.
