Are you a fan of The Child, AKA Baby Yoda? If you answered yes, then this is the card for you! Even if you haven’t watched The Mandalorian – you can still make this card with any design that catches your fancy.
I’m a huge fan of Star Wars and just recently watch The Mandalorian. The Child AKA Baby Yoda is just so adorable! So when I chanced upon this Sassielorian stamp set from The Sassy Club – I just had to have it!
I thought it would be great to make an interactive slider card where Baby Yoda’s little crib/pod would slide across over to Mando and reveal the message! I learned this technique from one of Jennifer Mcguire’s video tutorial which I link here. Its actually quite easy and requires no fancy dies. I explain more in detail here in my blog.
To create the background, I first masked off the bottom third of the card then ink blended with Distress Oxide Inks, first in Mustard Seed, then Ripe Persimmon, followed by Festive Berries and Wilted Violet. Then I finished it off with Black Soot right at the top.
I removed the masks then sprayed the panel with water mixed with shimmer powder. Then blotted it off with a paper towel.
For the mountain silhouette, I used my stamp positioning tool – Misti – using the base layer of the mountain stamp from the My Monthly Hero July 2019 kit. I used Hero Arts Intensified Black Ink.
Then I removed the mask and masked off the upper part and created the ground using Crushed Olive and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide Ink.
I assembled the card following the slider greeting tutorial of Jennifer Mcguire. You can watch her video or follow along my step by step instructions below.
I ink blended a 3/4″ X 5.5″ strip of cardstock to match the color of the ground in my scene.
I cut a slit across the horizon line starting from about 3/4″ from the left side until about 1.5″ away from the right side of the cardstock.
At the back of the cardstock, I placed the slider strip at the bottom of the horizon slit. Then I adhered a 1/8″ width foam tape strip at the bottom just underneath the slider strip. Added 2 pieces of the thin foam tape as a stopper, then placed a generous amount of foam tape above the horizon slit.
I adhered a strip of clear acetate at the back of the Baby Yoda die cut.
I turned the paper over making sure the slider strip was still flushed all the way to the left side. Then I inserted the acetate strip with the Baby Yoda die cut and positioned it where I wanted it to be.
I turned the card over and taped the acetate down on the slider strip.
Then I removed the foam tape backing and adhered the panel to a 4.25″ X 5.5″ horizontal note card.
I colored Baby Yoda and Mando with copics. I list the copic colors below.
Then stamped the sentiments “This is the Way”, “Happy Birthday” and a handwritten word “PULL”.
These are so fun to make, I think I’ll need to invest in an interactive words stamp set. If you have any recommendations, please let me know in the comments below.
Hope this project inspires you to give this simple interactive card a try. If you would like to pick up these adorable Sasselorian stamps, link to The Sassy Club Store here.
