Hello! I’m back with another blog tutorial. Lately, I’ve been in the mood to do paper piecing and this Bird Family fancy die set from Hero Arts has inspired me to do just that!

I must admit this took me more time than I usually spend on making a card but it was quite satisfying to do specially when I got into the “zone” cutting up those tiny little pieces of the petals flowers and leaves out of blue, yellow & orange cardstock. Yep! All those flowers leaves and petals are all paper pieced! Even the scalloped design on the wings are paper pieced.

After paper piecing all the little details on the wings, body of both mama and baby bird, I then cut out the flower wreath out of white cardstock. I cut three using the Flower Wreath die set also from Hero Arts. I glue them all together for added dimension. Then I paper pieced the all flowers on the wreath. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of that paper piecing without my small detail scissors and a jewel picker!
Then I used a black micron pen and a white gel pen for all the additional details. Then I glued them all down on a panel of off-white cardstock and matted it with a coordinating blue panel and popped up some of the flowers with foam dimension.
Next I added the sentiment “Happy Birthday” white heat embossed on blue cardstock. The sentiment is from the Folk Art stamp set.

I hope you were inspired to give paper piecing a try if you haven’t already!
Thank you so much for dropping by my blog!
Have a wonderful crafty day!
’til next time!
