The Global Team Welcomes Spring! Hero Arts Spring 2023 Catalogue Release

Hello friends! The Hero Arts Global team is hopping today for the release of the Hero Arts Spring 2023 catalogue! The latest catalogue is absolutely amazing and there are so much goodness in there that you will be absolutely spoilt for choice!

I created three cards and they all have one theme in common – butterflies! As I was browsing through Pinterest looking at butterfly photos, I was struck by the one feature they had that amazed me about them, the holographic nature of their wings. So I decided to experiment and try to replicate this in my cards.

Did you know that butterflies’ wings are transparent? And the reason that butterfly wings appear multi-colored is beacuse they are actually covered with tiny scales that reflect light in wonderful and amazing colors.

For the first card, I used the Absract Butterfly Wing Bold Print and stamped it on a piece of black cardstock with Embossing Ink. Then I took some Gold embossing powder and with a small spoon, sprinkled it randomly in some areas of the image. Then I took some copper embossing powder and sprinked it also randomly. Then I took some Sparkling Sea embossing powder and sprinkled it all over the panel until it covered all the embossed areas. I then heat set it. Using these three embossing powders gave the image a holographic look.

I stamped the butterflies from the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set with embossing ink and did the same combination of embossing powders, Copper, Gold & Sparkling Sea. The blue sparkles in the Sparkling Sea powder gave it a nice holographic sheen to the design. I cut the panel down to a little smaller than an A2 size card and heat embossed the sides as well.

I adhered the panel on a black cardstock, then added the butterflies, just adding the glue to the bodies and lifting the wings to give it some dimension. The sentiment, Sending Hugs, is from the You’re Mine stamp & die bundle.

In the second card I used the Fluttering Butterflies bold print cling stamp. I used a combination of different reactive inks from the Floral Palette reactive ink cube set, Thistle at the top, Grape Slush for the middle and Purple Galaxy at the bottom. After stamping it, I stamped it again with embossing ink and this time I used the Sparkle embossing powder for that shimmery look..

For the main image of the card, I stamped the flower cluster from the Wild Wisteria stamp & die set with embossing ink and heat embossed it using Silver embossing powder. I used the coordinating 4-pc stencil set to color in the details using the inks from the Floral & Nature Palette set of reactive inks. Then I die-cut them out using the coordinating die.

I then heat embossed the sides of the panel with silver embossing powder after trimming it down to a little less than an A2 size. The sentiment, Just for You, is from the Wild Columbine stamp set, heat embossed with silver embossing powder.

For the third and final card, I used the same Fluttering Butterflies cling stamp and heat embossed it with Sparkling Sea embossing powder on a panel of Peony cardstock.

The main floral element is silver heat embossed from the Monarch & Milkweed stamp & die set. I then colored it using the Splash reactive ink for the flowers and Lime Green reactive ink for the leaves.

The sentiment, Hello, is from the Friend Words fancy die set diecut using holographic paper from my stash. I also used the same holographic paper for matting.

  1. Oh my, both of your floral cards are gorgeous. I love the way you colored the centers of the first one. And I LOVE blue flowers, so both are gorgeous to me!

  3. Thanks for sharing your beautiful butterfly cards–my favorite is the purple but I’m intrigued by the first card and the darker metallic butterflies, very unique!

  4. Wow-so much sparkling goodness on all of these cards! It’s hard to pick a favorite, but since I do love florals and lavender, the second card is my favorite.
