Poinsettia Magic: Squirrels Gone Nutz Blog Hop

Hello everyone! I can’t believe how time is just flying by! It’s only 33 days until Christmas! Speaking of Christmas, that is our theme for this month’s Squirrel Gone Nutz blog hop – Christmas/Holiday with Vellum. For those who are new to our hop, my crafty friends and I, we call ourselves the Squirrel Sisters or Squirrel Squad, come together every month with a project inspiration based on a theme and a technique where we get to use at least one item in our stash that we haven’t used in awhile or that we have just simply “squirreled” away! If you are following along, you have just come from the lovely Lounon.

I have a quick and easy card inspiration card for you! This card looks like it took all day to make and thats the beauty of layering dies – a few simple steps and voila! a beautiful element for your projects.

For the main design element for my card, I using the Altenew Poinsettia 3D die, which by the way I purchased several years ago but to date have not used til now. I die cut the layers out of heavy weight vellum. The die set, has four layers of varying sizes. I die-cut one of each except for the biggest layer, which I cut two pieces.

Then the background, I took a panel of Neenah Desert Storm cardstock cut it to 4″X5.25″. Then I took the Pinstripe background stamp, inked it up with Hero Arts Unicorn pigment ink and then placed the cardstock panel on top. I pressed down firmly to make sure all the ink transferred onto the panel. Then to give it a magical glow. I took a domed blending tool and ink blended the same white ink on all sides.

I assembled the vellum poinsettia layers by adhering the middle of the flowers with liquid glue. I temporarily placed the poinsettia on top of the panel, then took some Altenew pure white ink spray, took off the nozzle and used the thin tube attached to it to splatter white ink all over. Then I heat embossed the sentiment “Happy Holidays” with Pure White embossing powder. I adhered the vellum poinsettia on the left of the sentiment. Then I added some Iridescent baubles which I think made it look more magical.

Hope this project inspired you to try using vellum on your card projects. I just love the soft magical look it gave to my card! Next stop on the hop is wonderful V Fairchild! Hop on over to her blog and show her some love!

Have a wonderful craft day!

‘Til next time!
