Winter Wonderland! A Slimline Shadow Box Winter Scene Card

It’s time for the November Papercraft Business Challenge! Our theme for this month is Christmas. My inspiration for this challenge is a slimline shadow box card.

A few weeks ago I created this slimline clean & simple winter scene card using the Hero Arts Winter Pine Tri-fold die and posted it on my Instagram.

I have been meaning to create a box card type design on a horizontal scale but was essentially undecided on what to do. Then just recently, Jennifer Mcguire, came out with a video on creating slimline box pop up cards and I had a lightbulb moment! It’s as if she read my mind!

To create my card, I cut down 2 pcs of 3.75″X 9.5″ from white, sturdy cardstock. Brutus Monroe Not Your Mamas Cardstock is perfect for this! This will serve as the main structure of the shadow box. Then I also cut down 3 pcs of 3.75″X 8.5″ from regular white cardstock and also 1 pc of the same dimensions from a dark teal cardstock.

I took the 2 pcs of the bigger cardstock and scored .5″ on each side. The folded both sides at the score line. This created the basic box. Then I took one of the panels and used the biggest Stitched Card Panels die from the Trinity Stamps and cut out a window.

For the trees, I took the two smaller panels and arranged the tri-fold Winter Pine die horizontally across and die cut them to fit the scene I wanted to create. I varied the arrangement on the other panel so as to give a more dimensional feel to the card.

For the third 3.75″X8.5″ panel, I used the Trinity stamp hill or snowbank die from the Trinity Stamps Scenic Border Die set. But instead of using the stitched snowbank, I used the negative cut out instead. Then heat embossed the Merry Christmas sentiment from the Hero Arts Color Layering Christmas Tree stamp set.

For the backdrop, I ink blended the dark teal panel on the top edge with Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide ink. Then I sprayed the panel with shimmer spray and splattered it with white acrylic paint mixed with Iridscent shimmer spray.

The assembly of the card is pretty straightforward, I first glued one panel of trees at the back of the window. Then I cut a piece of acetate and glued it behind it. The acetate gave the window some extra sturdiness. Next, I glued the second panel of tree to the bottom of the dark teal background, then glued that background to the back of the box panel. After doing that I aligned and adhered both sides to create a box effect making sure that it could lay flat once inside the envelope. Then I adhered the snow bank strip to the front of the card.
