Jumping for Joy! A Simultaneous Action Slider Card

We’re back!! It’s been a two months since our last Papercraft Business challenge! My fellow DT’s and I are excited to inspire you with the challenge this month — Interactive cards!!

For my card inspiration for this challenge, I created a slimline double action slider card! This is super easy to do and perfect for scene and critter images for your cards.

For this project, I used the super cute Bunny Burrow set from Trinity Stamps. I stamped out all the images in the stamp set. For the scene, I ink blended Mowed Lawn and Lucky Clover Distress Oxide across a slimline panel and used die cut two grass panel using the stitched grass die from the Scenic Border die set. I also ink blended another panel with Broken China Distress Oxide which would be the sky of my scene.

I laid out the stamped images and die cuts on a slimline panel on my mat to figure out where to place my little critters with the slider element. I thought it would be fun to have the fox and the hedgehog on either side of the card “jump up and down”. But instead of creating two separate mechanisms, I planned to make one pull tab that would enable them to simultaneously “jump” at the same time. I’ve never done this before and I am sure this has been done a thousand times by a thousand other crafters but I wanted to challenge myself that I can do this without watching or reading any tutorials!

To create the mechanism, I measured the space in between the two images which came out to 4.25″. I then cut two strips of cardstock measuring 4.25″ X 0.5″. I glued both strips together to make a sturdier element. Then I cut two more strips but measuring 0.75″ wide by approximately 6″ long. The length does not matter for now as I wanted to leave some allowance for the pull tab. I adhered both strips perpendicularly together then glued at the middle of the shorter strip. I glued a strip of acetate on either side of the mechanism. This will be the part where the fox and the hedgehog will be adhered to.

Before I adhered all my elements on the card, I colored all my images with Copics. I placed the fox and hedgehog in their respective places and marked their position with a pencil, just on the inner area of the images. I removed the images, then using a craft knife, I cut a vertical slit about 2″ inches long where I marked with the pencil.

Then I flipped the card panel over to the backside, placed the mechanism temporarily in position, marked the middle area where I will die cut a half moon at the top where the pull tab will be. After die cutting the half moon for the tab, I positioned the slider mechanism in the middle, inserted the acetate into the slits on either side. Then I flipped it back to the front of the card, and tested the mechanism. It works!!

Then I proceeded to adhere all my elements with glue onto the card, except for the fox and the hedgehog. I used a small foam dot on each exposed acetate strip and then adhered the fox and hedgehog on top just to make sure they don’t “snag” themselves on the grass. I also stamped out the word “PULL” from the Lawn Fawn Push Here stamp set.

Then I added foam tape at the back, making sure there was enough room for the slider mechanism to move freely up and down.

I adhered the panel onto a 8.5″X3.5″ card base. I adhered all the elements on the grassy scene. Then I added an ink blended “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” sentiment strip at the bottom right and called my card done! I did it and I am jumping for joy!

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and I hope to see you over at the Papercraft Business Challenge blog. I can hardly wait to see what you create! You just might win this super adorable Winter Alpaca stamp set from Lawn Fawn.

  2. Ha! “…slimline double action slider card”. I have to admit, I love this phrase.
I’m starting to fall in love with the slimline cards and the extra room they give. This card is so adorable, Anna. I can tell there was a lot of work put into this one.
