Welcome back to our monthly Collected Crafty Collab Hop! This is our second month! If you are hopping along, you have just come from the talented Donna Perisic. If you are new to this hop, Welcome!! My crafty squirrel sisters and I created this hop to encourage crafty bloggers and newbies to showcase their skills. This hop also encourages us to use up the stash we hardly use or never used – stuff we just “squirreled” away.
This month’s theme is Outdoor scenes and/or Patterned paper. My card inspiration for this hop is to use a stamp set for the first time and use pattern paper that I would otherwise keep in a drawer.

I received a wonderful paper pack and stamp set from Brutus Monroe which I haven’t used yet. I decided to try to paper piece the woodgrain design of the pattern paper for the barn in the stamp set as the main focal point in my card.
First I stamped out the barn from the Farmhouse Friends stamp set with Raven detail ink onto white printer paper. This will serve as the base of my paper piece design.

Then I stamped out the barn onto several colors of woodgrain cardstock — I must say I love love this pattern paper pack! It comes with 24 thick sheets of pattern paper in 4 sheets per design! I often purchase pattern paper because its so lovely to look at but I hardly ever use! Does this happen to you too?

Then I fussy cut all the elements out and pieced them onto the white stamped base.

Here is what it looks like all pieced together.

I also stamped the mother hen and her little chick, the fence and all the other elements to complete the paper piecing.
For the background, I white heat embossed the clouds from the Spiral Cloud stamp set using the Alabaster embossing powder onto watercolor cardstock and loosely water colored it with Distress Oxide Ink in Salty Ocean. The grass area was just a left over piece of cardstock water colored with Distress Oxide Ink in Lucky Clover and Twisted Citron. If you do not have Distress Oxides, you can use Simon Hurley inks (Later Gator & Overzealous) available in Brutus Monroe as they are water reactive as well.

I stamped the “Best of Cluck” sentiment with Raven Detail Ink. I then mounted it on an A2 size card base.

Though this was a very involved process to paper piece everything together, I had such a fun time doing it so I hope you give it a try!
Next in line in the hop is the queen of crafty christmas, Marie Bingaman!

This card is just jaw dropping! I love how well everything worked together: the scale of the patterns is just right and you nailed every little detail! Thank you also for the tutorial on how you did it. I haven’t really done much paper piecing before and this makes it clear on how I should proceed if I want mine to come out as nice as yours!
