An Elegant Gift Card Set for Mom & The AECP With a Twist

My mother-in-law casually mentioned that she needed to refresh her note card stash. She used up most of her store bought note cards during the holidays. So I thought I would give her a set of handmade note cards. My MIL is quite an elegant lady and I know her preference is something simple yet classy. I was inspired by the lessons at the Altenew Academy “With a Twist” given by Therese Calvird for my next AECP project. This set of lessons encourages you to think outside the box to give your cards that extra special unexpected “twist”.

For this project, I decided to make a gift card holder.

For the “twist” I had in mind, I chose the Lacy Scrolls stamp set, which I thought would be perfect for the job!

I started out with a 5.5″ X 3.5″ piece of sturdy cardstock. The Neenah 110lb. Solar White cardstock has the perfect sturdiness for this project. I then scored the cardstock at 2″ and then at 4.5″. See photo below. My apologies in advance if the paper does not look straight, the camera angle distorted the image.

I placed all the design elements I needed on my MISTI, arranging them as close to each other as much as possible. You can see I used most of the small stamps in the set. I also masked off the top part of the note card so the ink would not transfer where it was not needed.

I inked up my stamp with Versamark Embossing Ink and proceeded to heat emboss the top panel with Antique Gold Embossing powder.

After heat Embossing, I used a pencil to indicate the line where my cutting plate would cut to make a nice decorative edge to the top fold.

Then I placed the coordinating die onto the image and proceeded to die cut, making sure I only placed the top cutting plate on the bottom half of the line.

I did the same to other image. Then I used an exacto knife to cut the line to finish off the edge. I used Gold String Washi Tape for the bottom half of the gift card.

Now here is my twist! I used an exacto knife and a metal ruler to cut a slit on the bottom half of the card where the tails of the middle scrolls could fit thru. This will enable the card to close.

That’s it! Quite easy and simple. I also created matching envelopes using an envelope punch board and used the same pattern to stamp on the flap of the envelope using Gold Pigment Ink.
