No Colored Cardstock? No Problem! Upcycling with the Altenew Peony 3D die

As soon as I received my order of the Altenew Peony 3D die, I just had to start playing with it. The only problem was that my order of assorted colors of cardstock didn’t arrive yet. I guess I could’ve painted or colored some white cardstock but I thought I’d do something different.

I gathered all my old Martha Stewart magazines and cut out pages that were filled with color.

I carefully chose colors that I could use to cut out the layers for the flower and leaves. Magazine paper is quite flimsy so I pasted them into white cardstock scraps using Elmer’s extra strength glue stick. The reason I used a glue stick is that liquid glue might cause the magazine paper to buckle.

Then I proceeded to die cut all the elements of the flowers and leaves. I tore some blue magazine paper and used it on the background alternating between a dark and light blue.

I assembled all my elements and added a sentiment from the Altenew Adore You stamp set. Finished the card off with Nuvo Drops.

I’ve always been an advocate of upcycling. And before I got into card making, I did a lot of projects using scrap materials. I’m happy to come full circle with this card.

Hope this inspires you to try it out.

‘Til next time!

Anna

  3. Brilliant! I like to do this with flyers I get in the mail; many of them are pretty sturdy, though you don’t usually get such a large swath of color. I call it redeeming junkmail 🙂
